Lleyn Peninsula, July 2005

A week in a cottage with Sue, Emily, Louise, Anna and Pauline.

Pantglas, Cennin. SH462449

Sun 24 Jul 2005
We drove up in the rain via Leominster, stopping at Coed Y Brenin visitor centre for a coffee and a walk in the woods in the rain. Once
William and George were in bed, Liz and I walked up the fields behind the cottage to the top of Mynydd Cennin.

Mon 25 Jul 2005
I drove to the Lakes for Sue Courchee's funeral. On the way back I stopped at Bethesda for a run up Foel Meirch.

Tue 26 Jul 2005
Sunny. We walked from the B4417 to the fort and hut village on top of Tre'r Cein, then on a less distinct path across to Yr Eifl. Spectacular views.

4.2 km, 420 m ascent, 4:30.

We then looked for a beach and ice cream but failed to find them together at Morfa Nefyn or Pwllheli. Barbecue back at the cottage with the others.

A day on the beach at Llanbedrog - sand, sea and a stream kept the boys amused all day. We had lunch at Y Glyn, the beach-side bistro. I ran from the cottage to Bwlch Mawr and back.

Thu 28 Jul 2005
It was pouring with rain so we headed to the Llechwedd Slate Caverns
in Blaenau Ffestiniog. William was a bit nervous of a trip into the Deep Mine, but perked up when the helmets were handed out. He was fine as the train descended and walking along the dimly lit tunnel, but crumbled in the first chamber when the lights went out and the spooky commentary started. By the end he was comfortable with this and he did enjoy it. We had lunch in Betws y Coed and checked out the gear shops. Then back home via Nant Gwynant and Beddgelert.

Fri 29 Jul 2005
A trip to Portmeirion
which kept us amused for a number of hours and then home.
