"The Gap" with Mike.
We started from Talybont-on-Usk and climbed well, up the Taff Trail through the forest. A short downhill section on the road took us to a contouring track through Taf Fechan Forest . The next track was steeper and rocky. We stopped for some lunch at the small gorge and watched a large party push their bikes down and up. I managed to ride down but couldn't get up the other side. It stayed rocky all the way to The Gap but Mike managed to ride all the way. The pass was foggy and frosty and there was significant ice on the first steep section of the descent. We joined the road at Cwmcynwyn and detour right, down a bridleway was a mistake as it was a 1km streambed of boulders. Then down to Llanfrynach and back direct to Talybont-on-Usk , avoiding a trip into Brecon. A quick pint in the White Hart, Talybont-on-Usk rounded things off nicely.
31 km, 650 m of ascent, 2:55 ride time, 3:58 total time, 10.62 km/h average speed, 57.4 km/h maximum speed.
